Starsiege: Tribes Ported to Browsers on InstantAction

A web-based version of Dynamix's classic team-based multiplayer shooter Starsiege: Tribes is soon coming to browser gaming portal InstantAction.

The InstantAction port of Tribes will feature enhanced graphics and modding options, according to Kotaku.

InstantAction was created by GarageGames, a company founded by several former Dynamix employees. The team released a web-based spiritual sequel to Tribes, Fallen Empire: Legions, last year.

We'll have more on the Tribes browser port following next week's GDC, where a playable version of the game will be on display.

This is awesome news. The one concern I have is that mods formed a large part of my own, and I suspect most others, interest in the game. It wasn't long before almost all the public servers for the game hosted one of the several popular mod packages that introduced items like deployable shields that then allowed for things like mini-sieges and elaborate defensive turret setups to guard bases. I'd love to see a lot of these feature incorporated into the browser based game but I'd also be interested in some sort of system whereby user submitted mods could be hosted by the developers.

Shazbot, TribesNext then this. It good to see some of the classics come back in some form or another. Hopefully, this will encourage new gamers to try out something with depth in gameplay. In a way, it saddens me that the industry in general is not making games like this. (I'm looking at you Dice/BF1943)

I had fun back this past weekend playing with the shackers on the Goon server with TribesNext. Tribes 2 still has to be one of my favorite PC games of all time. Hope to see more shackers get into it soon.

Makes no sense and I bet it doesn't get any updates.

They have a game called Legions that is to be a sucessor to
Tribes. If they update Tribes the theres no reason to
work on Legions.

This seems to me more like a Valve move, let's have Counter-Strike 1.6 but never update it and add ingame ads but we have Counter-Strike Source and all updates will go to that.
