by Chris Faylor, Mar 14, 2009 8:55am PDTNice to see that we got some actual BioShock 2 details yesterday, especially after the early morning fake-out. Though I will admit, I'm a bit bummed that the rhinoceros and giant squid bosses turned out to be bunk. Those sounded off-the-wall awesome.
As Indiana is still pulling the old "it looks sunny and nice outside but it's really just a few degrees above freezing" trick, I think I'll end up spending most of the weekend inside. Let's see how many episodes of The Wire I can burn through, but don't worry. I'll take breaks to play Resident Evil 5, 50 Cent, and Peggle. Maybe I'll even read a book!

Is it crazy that I am not all that fond of algebra, polynomials, quadratics, etc... but I actually really enjoy doing Trigonometry? I mean, we're not doing anything major right now, but already I'm finding it way more enjoyable than my previous math course.

How the FUCK do I make XCode debugging useful? gdb is about the most useless piece of shit I've ever seen.
When I put a breakpoint on this line:

I get those various messages. It's like it can't dereference the property or something. The more I use XCode the more I hate it, it's nothing but a supreme exercise in frustration.

My computer is getting random lockups where the screen freezes and I have to reset.
It can happen on cold boot while browsing the shack and it's happened a few times playing games. What's weird is I've played TF2 many times for a couple hours and have had no problems.
I've tried Prime95, Memtest, & downclocking CPU and memory. I'm at a loss :(

I have had 2 media center PC's and I have to say, I just wasn't into it. I didn't use them enough to really justify having them, when all I really want is to watch the occasional movie or grab a show that I missed.

What a great product. I just plugged my usb hard drive in, let it scan, and I was watching full 1080p movies and listening to music in no time. Plays .mkv files, everything. Couldn't be happier with it.

This is my first hand gun, I'm partial to the G19 or the browning b/c both felt really comfortable in hand. The cz is a bit cheaper, the trigger pull is a bitch but it's safer, but also felt really nice in hand. I was always wanting a springfield but the grip safety is awkward & the fiance kept trying to push it down w/ her thumb, so I doubt she could of shot it.
What say you, help me pick my first gun.

I've been thinking of buying a robot arm. I've always wanted one as a kid. They've always fascinated me, and look like a fun toy. I don't want to spend $300 bucks on one, that's for sure. And so, the only cheap, affordable option are these robot arms by OWI.

The older one has wrist articulation along the rotational axis... letting me rotate the end effector (grabby thing). But it lacks the pitch articulation... The newer model has the pitch articulation for the wrist join, but lacks the rotational axis! BAH! So it seems like it's only useful for picking up objects that are perfectly suited for its grabber.
Any robot enthusiasts? Which do you recommend?
I'm taking way more film shots lately and I need to get a film/slide scanner. Anyone have any suggestions? I would rather not spend more than $300. I got a whole bunch of slides I've shot lately that look really cool and I need them scanned!

So I've finally got my HTPC going and figured I'd share here.
I'm using Mediaportal with the monochrome skin (because of a post I saw on the shack), movingpictures plugin, last.fm plugin, and the multishortcut plugin (to open netflix or hulu in full screen firefox).
I have some more work to do but so far it is really working out well. I recently got a logitech dinovo mini keyboard and it is exactly what I needed!

I don't mind losing to a skilled player, I fought one Dan that was amazing, and even one Akuma that was extremely well played. But it only takes the barest whisper of skill to dominate with the Shotokan crowd. I just don't understand the "I must win at all costs even though I've been playing Ken for 20 years" attitude. Eventually I have to give up on El Fuerte and switch to Blanka, and then proceeded to eviscerate all but the most skilled players, which was about 2% of them. And I played around with Rufus, who is surprisingly good. Admittedly I would have done better if the 360 controller wasn't such a piece of shit when it comes to fighting games. I need a Hori stick or something.

So, I'm looking to get the achievements for beating one or all of the campaigns on Expert. I know that most of you probably can't sit down and do all four campaigns in one night, so I figured I'd go one at a time.
That said, does anybody want to hook up later to do No Mercy on Expert? I'm thinking maybe 6/7PM Eastern (which is about 3 1/2 hours from now).
