'Up' Game Announced, PC Demo Up In Here

THQ today announced the official game based on Pixar's upcoming film Up, developed by Heavy Iron Studios (Wall-E, Ratatouille). The game is set to launch alongside the movie in May, on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, DS, PSP, PC and Mac.

Up will feature playable versions of all four characters from the movie--Carl, Russell, Dug the lovable dog or Kevin the prehistoric bird--possibly making this the first game allowing players to take control of an old man with a walker.

The action-adventure game also offers two-player co-op, and a four-player multiplayer aerial combat mode.

Strangely enough, the announcement was conveniently accompanied by a demo release. Check out the PC demo on FileShack.

What is this trash? You can't run in 1920x1200, and the fixed low resolution looks awful on a 24" monitor. I refuse to play this. At least the Monsters vs Aliens demo had nice textures and looked pretty good in 1920x1200.

Btw, props to these guys for making a 92 MB demo. I've almost got used to the 1-4 gb download size minimum for any small little thing.

Not everyone has 20mbps download speeds after all.

This is the most frustrating and realistic simulation of old age yet. I found myself struggling with simple every-day tasks, from climbing a three-inch step to squishing bugs. There was, of course, much falling down, over and off things. By the end of my time with this demo, I felt as if I myself were an old codger, stumbling blind drunk through the world.

Truly a turning point for video games and a realisation of how very much more the medium could do.

from the screen shots it looks like an old man simulator. You press space repeatedly to get him to stand up from his fallen position. In the next map you help him get to his heart medication without falling.
