Late Night Cinema: Half-Life 2 Recreated in Live-action 'Escape from City 17'

A technically impressive recreation of Half-Life 2's City 17 marks the first entry to "Escape from City 17," a new series of webisodes that combines live-action footage with Half-Life 2 assets and other digital effects.

The series is directed by brothers David and Ian Purchase. Their website's down, but check out their YouTube page for more info.

Question - the high pitched noise after gunfire. In the game I was always on the impression that this was supposed to be the sound of the ringing in your ears - like, when you alt-fired a grenade too close to yourself. It's been a while since I played HL2 but I hear this noise a lot in this short film - what is that noise supposed to be exactly?
