Xbox Live Going (Briefly) Free for Grand Theft Auto 4

To commemorate the first downloadable expansion for Grand Theft Auto IV, Microsoft has announced that all Xbox Live members will be able to partake in Grand Theft Auto IV online multiplayer from 9 AM PST on February 17 to 11:59 PM PST on February 22.

Traditionally, Xbox Live multiplayer access is barred to those with free Silver accounts, restricted only to those that have paid for or redeemed a Gold-level membership.

Microsoft stressed that the promotion only applies to those playing Grand Theft Auto IV or the downlodable Lost and Damned expansion, which requires the GTA IV disc to play.

One of two promised Xbox 360-exclusive downloadable episodes for Rockstar North's Grand Theft Auto IV, The Lost and Damned hits on February 17, priced at $20.

I'd be really curious how many subscribers XBL would still have if online play was free. People always say they pay for the social networking, if it's so valuable why does online play have to be fenced off?

- I think the pay to play adds a level of control to the whole thing. MS has some recourse for banning assh... : metalremains
- I pay for the whole package, and I have yet to have an online experience that's as easy to use as XBL. : hillemania

free online multiplayer for silver accounts Please

charging for that is lame especially when most games are hosted by US

some games host their own serves but thats same thing on PC, Wii and PS3 and unless they are MMORPG's the games usually don't charge
