Xbox 360 Dashboard Update Fixes HDMI Sound

A mandatory dashboard update for the Xbox 360 debuted earlier this morning, with Microsoft claiming it will resolve the sound issues some HDMI-users have had.

The problem, which popped up following the November 19 launch of the New Xbox Experience, left some Xbox 360 users without sound on certain HDMI-connected displays. Prior to the NXE, these devices properly outputted Xbox 360 HDMI audio.

Xbox 360 users will be prompted to download the update upon signing into Xbox Live. Some New Xbox Experience beta testers received the update earlier last month.

I've run HDMI and have never had any issues, but I'm glad to hear they've finally fixed this issue for those that got screwed with the NXE update.

I never lost sound, but about 3 times since NXE came out I've had the sound on the TV turn all garbled, always while using the xbox, and the only solution was to turn everything off and actually unplug the TV. Hopefully this will resolve that issues as well.

Wow. I reported this back in November of 2008. I can't believe it took Microsoft this long to fix. I solved the problem by relocating my 360 downstairs in the living room where it has gathered dust.
