Rumor: Battlefront 3 Technology Lost in Translation

There's nothing worse than scrapped technology, let's hope Free Radical makes good use of this in a future game.

Hopefully one that isn't about starwars, how about a Firefly game instead?

That transition was the thing that made me sit up and go WHOAH. We've seen huge environments in battlefield-style games before, but this was on a whole new level of huge (and awesome).

Oh well. :/

Fuck, this game came out of nowhere. Scored a 9.5 on my hype meter after seeing that leaked vid....now with the news of the engine switch...my interest in this game has tanked.

Fuck that would have been cool to fly from the surface too space.

For all their faults (Time Splitters was endlessly derivative, if mindless fun, and Haze was just plain unimpressive) it'd be a definite shame for cool tech like that to be dumbed down into something so unimpressive. I still think theres no guarantee this would actually have been fun, but at least Free Radical were doing something innovative for once.

I don't have much faith in Rebellion to crank out a decent game anymore. Sure, the original AVPs (Jaguar 1994 and PC 1998) were decent but both of those were long ago. With the possible exception of Rogue Trooper (which I understand was rather underrated), I can't think of another game they've released in recent years that has been particularly noteworthy. 'Dredd Vs Death' had alot of potential but was utterly wasted (much like the Stallone movie). Even their last AVP game for the PSP was met with mostly lukewarm reviews - almost as though all the talent behind the earlier AVP games had moved on to other pastures.

Seriously? Back to Pandemic? Fuck... Pandemic has been so far inept at making polished, intuitive, and evolutionary games this generation. Mercenaries 2 was a bug filled pile of garbage, with unintuitive gameplay and irritating gunplay. Sure it was fun to blow shit up, but it got old and the fact that all the destruction was pre-rendered meant it was just as fascinating as it was on an Xbox. Then let us not even speak about LOTR Conquest. Jesus, they simply put the Battlefront gameplay onto this and it did not work. Stupid controls with no lock on during melee combat, and no depth to said combat, unbalanced classes, hero characters that make you feel less than heroic, especially when you play a Balrog and 2-3 hobbit archers take you down. Gandalf almost died against the Balrog, this is just one of the many injustices that this game does against the lore and utterly rapes it. I hope EA cans Pandemic ASAP, Brisbane was first, hopefully the rest is next. Everything that they have released this generation is last generation gameplay, which was not even that great to begin with, wrapped in shiny graphics.

Fuck, this game looks innovative and interesting. Quick, change devs immediately! We need boring-ass cutscenes and a strong dedication to our Same-Old-Shit vision.

Damn, I was vaguely interested after watching that video and now it's scrapped? Jesus, get those old people out of the corporate office, follow Samsung's lead....

Sounds like they are switching game engines. I wonder if it's a licensing thing, or the new developers are familiar with the other engine and would rather build everything in that.

I bet George Lucas is behind 99% of this.

Well, there goes my interest in this game.

Well since anyone involved with any of this series of it's spin offs (lotr) have any concept of game balance so are completely incapable of making a fun game, this isn't bad news... flying from ground to space would get old after what? 3rd or 4th time you do it? then you're left with a bad game that offers you nothing in gameplay.

Well, don't care much from that shaky-cam 320x240 video I didn't see shit. Even the worst graphics on the planet look well in that kind of video, as for the gameplay in that video, well, wasn't impressed much anyway.

I'd rather see a new Republic Commando as another Battlefront series game. But having both is no evil either. Hope the guys who anticipate the game will be pleased when it finally ships.

Maybe the rest of the game will be improved depsite the absence of this tech? Pandemic games always seemed incredibly shallow to me. Maybe some people will like their take on BF3 better.

This is the worst news. There needs to be some way this game can get saved in the state it's in, ie foundation of a new company that will employ ex-Free Radicals and be OK to pump this game out under a publisher that will understand what it will mean to the brand..
