Resistance: Retribution Demo Available with Pre-order

Sony has announced that a demo of Resistance: Retribution (PSP) is now available for fans that pre-order the game through a specific list of retailers.

The participating retailers include Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, or Game Crazy. After pre-ordering the game, the demo can then be downloaded from the PlayStation Store with a voucher code.

The shooter demo will feature single and multiplayer gameplay, as well as the game-changing Infected mode. Players will also have a chance to try out Resistance: Retribution Plus, which allows users to play the game on a PlayStation 3.

Resistance: Retribution is set for a March 17 release.

So what happened with getting a demo out to as wide an audience as possible as soon as possible instead of granting select very small groups exclusivity for any period of time? Have demos become a reward for purchase rather than a method of incentivizing the potential buyer?

  When the demo gets publicly released everyone can still play and decide if they want to buy. It still serves the purpose for thosel on the fence. If you can entice ppl to commit before the game is released you get to lock in sales in advance. I think it works. They actually stand to lose more if they release the demo early to everyone and lose some of the novelty or people realize the game is not so hot prior to release.
