PETA Names Veggie-friendly Fable 2 as the GOTY
by Nick Breckon, Jan 06, 2009 8:00pm PSTApparently overlooking the "Chicken Kicker" achievement in Lionhead's Fable II, animal rights group PETA has recognized the title as its game of the year.
"Fable II is a vegetarian's dream come true," writes PETA in its GOTY. "In this virtual fight between good and evil, characters powered by tofu are just as powerful as their meat-eating counterparts--and are more fit and attractive to boot."
"Featuring a strong pro-vegetarian theme, eating a plant-based diet helps you rack up 'purity' points, whereas eating meat makes your character fat and evil. A fun and innovative game, it's also an effective tool that teaches gamers the real-life benefits of a vegetarian diet."
PETA is no stranger to the gaming industry of late. The organization recently forced Sega to pull Samba de Amigo ads that featured trained chimps, and in November produced a Flash-based version of Cooking Mama subtitled "Mama Kills Animals."

however, it pains me to admit that the one thing they DO accomplish is they bring attention to the general idea of animal rights.
so then the question is does the idea of 'all publicity is good publicity' really apply. i guess it does at least attract more wackos to do stupid crap in the name of animals.

They're a little like the really militant global warming crowd, who are so strident and aggressive that they make a mockery of their own arguments. There are some really serious pollution issues out there, and I am not entirely certain that carbon dioxide, which can be metabolized by plants back into oxygen, is one of them, especially since the earth now seems to be cooling, in trend with the sun entering a period of reduced activity.
Kind of a nonsequitur, but I think the comparison is apt. These groups do more damage to their cause than they realize. I understand that you can't be quiet and meek when you're trying to get people's attention, but the famous "your daddy is a murderer" comic, or whatever it was called, is just beyond the pale, and it looks like they're still on their shock-value kick.

Did they just imply that approximately 90% of the world's population is "fat and evil"?

But even *I* hate PETA. If it were up to me I'd have them all walk the plank YAARR!!

So eating meat makes me fat and evil? And vegies only will make me as smart and sexy as you?

The animal rights movement will never get anywhere so long as PETA keeps doing these kinds of laughable publicity stunts. It demeans the entire subject and turns the debate childish.

It's easy for video game characters to be vegan since you don't have to actually eat it yourself.
