Killzone 2 Demo Exclusive to GameStop Until Launch

It turns out that GameStop wasn't joking around when it promised "exclusive access" to a downloadable Killzone 2 (PS3) demo in exchange for a $5 pre-order.

Publisher Sony has confirmed that if you want experience a portion of Guerrilla's anticipated first-person shooter before its retail release on February 27, you'll need to enter into a financial arrangement with GameStop and its retail monkey minions.

At some point following the game's release, the demo will then be made public.

"The demo will be available on the PSN after the game ships but only through GameStop until then," Sony clearly and concisely explained to Joystiq.

You guys are so cool hating on gamestop.

Gamestop lets you reserve the game, get the free "beta/demo", and then take your reserve OFF and get your money back at a later date. It's just 5 bucks that has to go in limbo for at least a day. If you hate them so much just take advantage of that.

i dunno why i can not get hyped for this game. :/ i sold 5 ps3 games to get the cash for the pre-order early demo access for L4D, this....ill wait. looks pretty, but i have no intention to play an online FPS MP game on a console. maybe thats my problem....i love MP but aiming without a K&M would frustrate me to pulling out pubes.

Well, there we have it. I had flak for complaining about how this was going forward and how Valve gave early access to the Left4Dead demo as well, but eventually was for everyone. This is not a demo, and they should not call it a demo. A demo is the ability to play a game without committing to buying it, without worry of purchase, and ease of access by downloading it through PSN, Live, Internet, etc. Instead we have these lame attempts at making sales, I am sure there will be a good amount of people who may pay for this demo and choose not to purchase the game. Please do not call it a demo until it is released for free, and for the entire public. Bullshit.

Lame. It's not a huge deal to me because it's basically a day 1 buy, but for those who don't have a gamestop nearby it will probably make them a little mad. It doesn't make much sense to me though. I'd imagine gamestop is throwing quite a bit of money at Sony for this, but for Sony's sake I wonder if it's worth it. You have the biggest game on your system launching, but you're potentially limiting the amount of hype it'll get by doing this.

On the other hand I guess this is kind of like Microsoft bundling the Halo 3 beta with Crackdown.
