Far Cry 2 Trailer: Meet the Jackal

Ubisoft sent along a new trailer for Far Cry 2, in the works at its Montreal studio. Viewers are introduced to the Jackal--the player's primary objective--and all the shady characters one must go through in order to reach him.

In development for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Far Cry 2 puts players in war-torn Africa on October 21.

Too bad it's being published by Ubisoft, and as such won't be available outside of the US on Steam. It actually looks impressive and I wanted to buy it too, shame.

Plenty of other games to play.

Why cant you buy and download this over in europe? you cany on steam, you cant on ubisoft.com and you cant via direct2drive.co.uk.

What the hell do they want mass piracy or what?

I want to download it legit and they dont want me to?? By the the time the retail copy comes if im lucky it will take 3-4 days after launch. That sucks what the hell are Ubisoft doing?

I have a week to beat this before Fallout 3 comes out. Then I have about 12 days to beat Fallout before Mirrors Edge comes out. Shit, I don't have that kind of time. Are all autumns going to be like this from now on?

I never fully understood the "keep your enemies closer" saying. Even when I read something about it in Art of War.

Wouldn't I want my friends closer to me so that we can destroy the enemy easier?

By the way, I've never done this before, but on the main page there was an advertisement for Far Cry 2 at gamestop along with "extra missions". Apparently if you pre purchase the game from gamestop you get a different version with "3 hours of more missions". Not sure if I should have, but I took the bait.

They played this whole thing (with maybe less blood at the end) in front of South Park last night.

Honestly, I had no idea it was Far Cry 2 until the name came across the screen. I know people had been saying Far Cry 2 had some real potential and wasn't some "oh hey hand this name to some other developer" but I hadn't been paying attention.

This is a very slick trailer, and it looks to be a good game. The gameplay itself doesn't look too original or innovative but the fact that they put it in Africa with smugglers really strikes me as original. Something about the idea of running around with zebras and bison and shit really strikes me as neat.

Color me impressed.
