Next Diablo 3 Class Will Anger Fans, Says Blizzard
by Nick Breckon, Sep 16, 2008 12:00pm PDTDiablo III lead designer Jay Wilson has predicted that some fans will inevitably take exception to the next class his team will announce, while adding that the swapping of classes is necessary to establish the game's "identity."
"All the Barbarian players are delighted and all the Necromancers hate us. I understand, I don't begrudge them that," said Wilson to VideoGamer.com. "I would hate me too! But what I would say is that when we announce the next class, which is quite similar to a previous class, then all those players will hate us too."
Blizzard has already confirmed that the Barbarian will be the only class to return from Diablo or Diablo II. The announced Witch Doctor class is largely seen as a replacement of Diablo II's Necromancer.
"You can't make everybody happy," continued Wilson, "but I think when the game finally come out players will find there's a good class for them, one they will love as much as the ones that came before. And if they don't, I absolutely promise that in the expansions we'll consider bringing back old classes. We just don't want to do it with the first release. We want to establish our identity."

I'm almost positive the Assassin, which is my favorite class, will not be making it back. I just like the speed and having to choose the appropriate charges to be effective. It made playing the game a bit more involved I found, so if there is a similar class, I'll more than likely be happy.

Samurai - Skill trees involve sword finesse (rapid strikes, extra damage, dancing swords etc) Archery (the new bowazon) and Mystic abilities (ninja ferret ally auto loots the battlefield and deflects ranged attacks, kitsune can attack and auto heal etc., spirit guards etc)
Shapeshifter - can copy monsters from their corpses (depending on what specializations they choose) and enhance them with the other skill trees
Charons - A race of living suits of armor that can absorb trash drops to heal and buff themselves. In addition to being living weapons, they are powered by ancient magics, they can release lightning bolts and fire novas etc.
Arcanist - Can use elemental powers, and cripple (curse) the enemy and use wards to control the battlefield.
Demonologist - Can summon eldritch allies, control hellfire and assume aspect of demons to become a fearsome fighter.
Those wouldn't make me mad.

so Diablo1 =/ Diablo2.
Im sure the game is going to be amazing.
I think this was just a dumb mistake to announce how upset people are going to be... we all know fanboys are going to be upset no matter what blizzard does... but in the end they all play.

And years from now, when D4 is in the works, every single thing they change from D3 will generate just as much anguish, as many of those same people will have fallen in love with those new features that departed from D2.
Blizzard can't win, so it makes sense for them just to not listen and instead follow their own design principles. Your customers *aren't* always right. Sometimes they're wrong, and sometimes they're stupid, and very often those are the ones that are the loudest.
