Max Payne Film Director Complains of Rating Woes, Accuses MPAA of Sucking Cock
by Blake Ellison, Sep 05, 2008 4:15pm PDTJohn Moore, director of the upcoming Max Payne film adaptation starring Mark Wahlberg, has a few words to say about the Motion Picture Association of America--the United States' ratings group for films--and most of those words are profane.
"The Motion Picture Association of America gave The Dark Knight a PG-13 rating and basically sucked Warner Bros.' cock," Moore said to DasGamer, referring to the blockbuster film sometimes thought too dark for the PG-13 rating.
Moore's outburst stems from attempts to secure a PG-13 rating for Max Payne, which would theoretically allow for some mature content while avoiding the age restrictions and reduced revenues of an R rating.
"I have a serious amount of issues with the MPAA," he continued. "The MPAA changes their rules willy-nilly and it depends on who's seeing your actual movie at the time. It's very difficult to get a hold on what's acceptable."
Moore feels that not only has the MPAA treated him unfairly, but that they also acted subjectively in preliminarily assigning an R rating to his film: "They said to me, the movie feels R. And I said, 'What the fuck is that, a group therapy session?' You can't do that. They're meant to judge content, not intent."
The Max Payne game series, developed for PC by Remedy, was rated Mature by the ESRB. Much like an R rating, Mature indicates that it is suitable for players above 17.
Meanwhile, the movie, trailer here has not yet received its final rating, but will appear in theaters on October 17.

"Max Payne has been rated R by the MPAA on September 5th 2008 for Strong Violence, some drug content and for brief language."
P.S. Maybe they'll put back in the stuff they removed to try to get a PG-13 rating. one can always hope....
And I'm glad to know that the MPAA said it "Feels" like "R", despite John Moore's objections. That's a GOOD thing! I think it would be much more "objectionable" if it felt like PG-13.

If i was a max payne fan (and i'm only not cuz i've never played it) but i'd be pissed if i played a game that had gore and language and sex; and then it was removed for the movie so some brat 13 yr old can go see it who won't appreciate it for what it's supposed to be.

I was finally getting around the concept of a PG-13 Max Payne, however, if hes not going to get that rating I hope they can put it on hold and do a true "R" rated version. I hate movies that get slapped with "R" because of two usages of 'fuck" or one too many bullet wounds being shown.
If it's gonna be R, make it an R movie.

About the movie... if it really deserves PG-13 but gets an R rating, he should reshoot and add scenes to make it more awesome.

I never really pay attention to ratings, and I just assumed it was R.
Wow. :P

A parent should watch a trailer and read their content outline, then decide if their kid can deal with the movie or not...

(according to what I read it was the sound effect of a knife entering one of the characters
I'd rather Max Payne didn't make similar sacrifices in the name of raping the wallets of children too young to have played the games.
and I agree that Batman should have been an R
and I doubt Max Payne deserves a PG-13
grow up Mr. Moore 2 wrongs don't make a right...LOL
