Age of Conan Expansion Pack Arriving Next Year, DirectX 10 Screenshot Comparisions Hit

Developer Funcom has announced that the first retail expansion pack for its mature PC MMO Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures will hit next year.

The accompanying teaser image for the expansion, pictured left, suggests that the it will add Oriental areas, foes and lore to the game.

Alongside news of the expansion pack, the developer issued screenshots highlighting the difference between the title's DirectX 9 and Direct X10 graphical effects--with DX10 support coming in a free future update to the core game--along with a look at some of the upcoming free content.

Am I the only one in the world unimpressed with DX10? I really think its overhyped and not all that spectacular compared to DX9.

I preordered this game and really wanted to like it. Unfortunately, after I left Tortage and the amount of instancing really kicked in, I immediately cancelled. The PVP system was broken enough, but the complete lack of an open, seemingly seamless world just drove the final nail for me. I guess WoW spoiled me, but it really is quite an achievement, when you think about it, to create a world where the only real loading times are between continents. Being able to ride from one end of the world to another is very immersive IMHO.

This whole thing is really leaving a bad taste in my mouth. I usually give developers the benefit of the doubt but Funcom has consistently proven to me they are an incompetent studio with a lack of any ethical judgement. The game, past the newbie island, is an absolute mess in terms of gameplay and content and they dare come out with an expansion notice? It's ridiculous!

I deleted a long rant. They just aren't worth it. Lesson learned... I will never buy a Funcom product again.

i also wanted to like this game. quit playing after 20 days. left tortage and was just bored of playing it by that time. i like the grafx. NOT including dx10 w/retail was bs. the lack of loot was depressing. ALWAYS instancing was horrid. it coulda been good, but it's too late now. wotlk & warhammer will probably destroy it. meh, it's for the best i'm sure. they tried.

My biggest complaint about this expansion is that it doesnt fit the lore ... Howard (the creator of conan) rarely mentioned khitai (china/japan) and when they did it was always as a place of mystery that few western eyes had ever seen first hand. there's just so many areas they could have picked like the zingaran coast (pirates) or turan (nomad/horseback warriors) but instead they picked a part of hyborea that was rarely visited and seldom used in the original stories

I am one of those poor souls who preordered it and were horribly disappointed.

Well, it says "Directx 10 Support!" on my retail box from back then.
Absolutely awesome move. Packing a supposed retail feature into an expansion pack and charge for it.

As much as I am a graphic feen and am sure this will look awesome in DX 10 it will not fix the horrible loot in this game.

The loot looks like shit, there is no variety and as you play there is no want to get any that is in the AH or in the world drops, you just don't care.
