Star Trek Online Trailer

Wasnt AMAZING but Ill be paying attention. The market needs a good sci-fi MMO. If only Mythic worked on a 40K MMO instead of trying to take on WOW...

well, if that was all they showed at their event too, then it pretty much is 100% what I predicted. Short clips of camera panning through their different sceneries, some brief moments of mockup in-game action. That, a game, does not make.

wow, that looked the completely horrible..

Couple of things.

1. This trailer was better than I anticipated. I'm all about ship to ship combat, and I'm happy to see that's core here. I don't mind "away missions" but I'd much rather hold the line against a Borg Cube any day.

2. They could have paid Patrick Stewart a fair amount and had him do the voiceover, and it would have won SO many more people over. I think it would have been well worth the expense to hire him. Cryptic: drop the wad on Stewart and you'll reap the benefits.

3. If you simply cannot do 2, then hire Shatner. JUST for the voiceover, nothing else. Or at least hire someone with a better tone.

4. That galaxy class solo up against that cube is FUBAR. Did anyone else notice that the cube used the "Picard maneuver" from the Stargazer on that little ship? Oh my god I'm a geek.

Ok, I'm sold after hearing the event and seeing the trailer. Having a customizable starship and crew (their like your pets!)...the exploration aspect so its not all fighting...having a captain emerge from different backgrounds...it sounds very nice. If they include a lifetime membership option, I'll be truly content.

I want to like it, but the space battle from ~0:57 to 1:02 looks dumb and the rest looks way too cartoonish. The trailer didn't seem to capture the stuff that makes it seem like Star Trek to me (and I watched the Star Trek cartoons when I was a kid). Maybe a later trailer will seem better, from watching that though, I'd have to pass on this.

This makes me think of the Star Trek adventure at the Hilton in Las Vegas and how incredibly expensive it is. Hopefully this is reasonable.

Ok which one of you broke the video? The front page has a Raving Rabbids TV ad, but going to comments it has the correct video.

How well developed is the lore/story for the period of time in which this game is set ??

That is, I believe I read that this game is set a few years after Next Generation.

My assumption is that maybe some of the books, comics, etc. for Star Trek expand on characters and timelines from the TV series but I haven't read any of that stuff so I'm up-to-date.

Please be good. I hate Star Trek, but I would love a real good space/sci-fi MMO that isn't EVE Online.

Why has the never been a star trek game with good graphics? Im sorry but if eve online can make some of the most amazing atmospheric graphics from 4 years ago, then all other games should be shot if you cannot make it look good in this day and age..

Yes i know it all about he gameplay, but they could at least make it looks fucking amazing. (oh well its not even alpha yet.)

Two things:

1) Am I seeing things or did a starship collide with a Borg cube and make it move? Does that seem sorta dumb to anyone else?

2) ...or create entirely new races - ugh, please no. The Star Trek universe already has plenty of races, and one of the things that throws users into a tizzy is when something "isn't canon" (i.e., isn't part of the "official timeline". Now granted, by definition nothing in this game would be canon but wouldn't it just make the Trekkies (or whatever the term is now) annoyed to not have a clue what race of alien they're looking at because someone who played too much Spore decided to create the Walking Dickheads race? Unless they're talking about race mixing (i.e., a half-Klingon, half-Vulcan, etc.) - then it might be interesting.

It's crazy if you look at how far Perpetual got with STO they couldn't get additional funding based on this build. I'm not saying its awesome but when they hellgate'd I thought they had nothing to show but cancelled gods'n'heros and concept art for STO pitch. Why they didn't clue the rabid community in on this build is beyond me.

What was it that one guy said about publishers revealing games too early?

That voice over guy was terrible. His lines were pretty dumb. Fucking hilarious when his voice completely changes to say "FOR WAR" though.

I really hope you can have people doing engineering/weapons while someone else flies

I laughed at the cute blue alien with antennas hanging from the front of his head. I also think this game has great potential... I don't think I will be playing too much of it though, too many other underplayed MMO's in my library.

I'm a big fan of fancy pants graphics but perhaps this game is built so you can readily identify all screen elements and make strategic decisions, by the looks of things the game is going to have much more up close and personal more quickly resolving fights then most EVE encounters (dam that games so slow) so screen clutter and over... flashy graphics would be a drawback.

(They were pretty bad though)

Looks completely cartoonish and like others have stated I still cannot believe the graphics from Eve-Online from four years ago versus this crap. Announcers voice sounded like a developers dad and not very professional at all. I can't see this game making MMO status or staying there very long.

I kinda hate RPG's and dislike MMO games in general but this one is looking good. Oh well, I guess my sci-fi and addiction is calling.

REally not a trekkie but this looks fun. Just hope they don't spread themselves too thin between ship combat and avatar combat. Pirates of the Burning Sea was really weak in some aspects.

i will probably give this a try since i love star trek but the whole MMO thing has yet to do it for me

Dig the look slight stylized character look; hope it turns out good. Love the contrast of the minimal interiors to the ships outer structure.

As someone CRAVING an exploration centered Space/SciFi mmo, this makes me boldly go -- in my pants! EVE was/is/shall forever be boring CRAP for Europeans! Earth & Beyond has YET to be replaced after all these years.
