While I havent got a handle on all the weapons yet one factor that puts this above your average deathmatch is the use of backpacks. not just one kind but several from what I've seen so far. They imbue the player with the abolity to do things like increase running speed (named "fleetfoot"), one named "Rhino" powers you up for a fast dash that destroys anything in your path (buildings, players, etc), a limited jetpack that gives you the ability to jump up to high places, one called "concussion" that knocks down any players within the vicinity allowing you to put the pick-axe to them, one that increases your firepower. All have a limited power supply that, once exahasted, takes several seconds to recharge. You can swap them whenever you get to a supply station.
The weapons feel good with some nice feedback and sound.
The only real downside is the performance is still quite rough. Also, as we've seen in screenshots, the graphics aren't exactly state-of-the-art (due to the amount of resources the physics must be taking from the hardware I'd guess).
Otherwise its a blast. Established developers should take a lesson from these guys and realize that simple player vs player DM can still be a lotsa fun.

Destructible terrain, as always in Red Faction games. The hammer is a nice touch, takes down walls. And you use it to capture a point by destroying it, and then rebuilding it.
