QuakeCon! We are actually sponsoring the

tournament this year for giggles. The wife and I will of course both be there, along

with Nick Breckon. Maarten hates you so he isn't coming.

As for the the videogame news around these parts for today:

Lastly, I am actually pondering seeing Dark Knight again which I almost never do. Just

thinking back to watching that movie I gain even more appreciation for it.

  • So tried to go see the Dark Knight last night but the IMAX was sold out... :( ...

So I instead rented the animated Gotham Knight to ease my pain.

What a pile of horse poop this thing is. Holy shit. Do not waste a penny. How shall I begin to complain...

It's set up as six small batman stories, and the major problem is that this gives each such a tiny run length that it's over before you know it. They should have gone for at least 50% more in each and dropped the worst two stories.

Of the six, the first was a fairly cool story that showed the Batman from the perspectives of a bunch of kids who had seen him fighting over the course of the day. The problem being though that Batman himself actually features in this for about 20-30 seconds, and has one line.

The second story suffers from the same problem. It's another "outsider's perspective on Batman", and the protagonist features again for maybe a minute or two, offers up two lines at the end and vanishes and the story is over.

This is when the lack of cohesiveness in the animation starts to kick in. It's all done by japanese animators, and around the third or fourth story it's like the Young Effeminate Anime Batman. Apalling. These guys just had no prior exposure or experience with the character and his costume was just comical, with this big beak on the cowl. He looked like Hawkman dressed in black, and the Bruce Wayne looked like the typical messy haired modern Japanese guy. Real groaner.

Following this was a semi-effeminate Bruce Wayne in India learning about pain management. Again just not enough time to establish a story before it's over. And it ends with Batman in a sewer with like 30 guns in his arms telling Alfred he can't take his hand to be helped out of the sewer. Bizarre, Batman was such a pussy in this... he had been shot by some nobody dude who also got away. So there he was, the man who beat superman, defeated by a fat scared guy with a gun, crawling around in the sewers, gathering guns and rooting in the garbage, needs Alfred to come pick him up and wipe his nose, and then unwilling to put down the crap he finds so Alfred can carry him out.

The only two in this that seemed true to Batman was a strangely animated Batman pursuing Scarecrow and Killer Croc in the sewers, which was mostly forgettable anyway, and then a very poorly animated story involving Dead Shot. This was probably the most Batman like of them all, but the animation was just harsh.

    A big load of poop.
