Left 4 Dead Box Art Is Really Awesome, Terrifying

From developer Valve comes a first look at the artwork set to adorn the retail release of its cooperative zombie-slaying shooter, Left 4 Dead (PC, 360).

While Shacknews does not regularly report on promotional imagery and pack shots, we feel that the box art for Left 4 Dead—arguably one of the Shack's most anticipated games of 2008—merits the attention in an era of standard-issue character render artwork.

Left 4 Dead is expected to hit retail shelves and Valve's PC digital distribution platform Steam on November 4. For more on the game, check out our most recent preview, the latest batch of footage and the new character designs, all hailing from last week's E3 Media and Business Summit.

It's the 'green' box. How much do you want to bet that HLep3 is going to be the 'purple' or 'blue' box or something..they've already done orange(original), blue (blueshift), green (opfor), etc in the past.

Strange that this is so popular. I'm not the only one to actually be a little repulsed by the art... It's over the top, cheesy, lacks subtlety in it's meanings, and is violently oversaturated in a colour that has virtually no presence in the game itself.

Admittedly, I hate the game's title too.. Bad puns all around.

Nonetheless, I look forward to the game itself ;)

Stardock has a nice feature for their games where you can digitally download the game, but pay $5 to have them ship you the box. Put this in Steam now, Valve!

Definitely some awesome boxart there, should be real eye-catching on the retail shelves.

Yeah, this box art is awesome. I really wish I could have it both ways and get the game the instant it comes out on Steam, but have the cool box art.
