Guitar Hero World Tour to be Fully Compatible with Rock Band's Xbox 360 Instruments

21
Developer Neversoft has confirmed that Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero World Tour will be fully compatible with Rock Band's Xbox 360 guitars, drums and microphone.

The announcement came during the Activision press conference, where Guitar Hero World Tour was demonstrated live. There is no news on whether the PS3, PS2 or Wii Rock Band instruments will function.

When asked about the issue earlier today, Rock Band developer Harmonix was unaware of the news and could offer no further details.

How is that going to work though? Doesn't GH:WT have 5 drums? Well, I doubt you know any more than what's written but hopefully if you find out, let us know :O

some site said when it recognizes the RB drum kit it will automatically drop one note from the drum charts.

dunno if they'll have to work two different sets for each difficulty because of that or if the songs will just be missing some beats played, but it's a nice feature.

Five pads, but I'm thinking that there are only four distinct functions (in addition to the bass pedal function).

That is, the 2nd cymbal pad actually repeats one of the other pads functionally.

It's the same sort of thing that's being done with the Ion controller for Rock Band - note the color bands on the cymbals. They are simply redundant pad locations.

If you watch the gameplay vids of GH:WT you can see 5 different gems in addition to the kick pedal line on the drum charts.

um, well, there's that super fancy rock band 2 deluxe drum set with cymbals, and you can buy optional symbols for the stock rock band 2 drum kit.

based on what i've been hearing, i'd just expect the game to drop a note from the chart, like pyide suggested.

Ya, must be the dropped note, since the addon cymbals actually mimic the existing pads. Watched too much RB2 coverage to remember the source for that tidbit. It showed the three jacks in the back of the kit and they were color coded to existing pad colors.

The ION kit is the same. If you look close at the pics you see there are multiple pads of the same color.

the added cymbals mimic the existing pads, but they're recognized as different inputs. hitting a green-colored cymbal in rock band 2 will make a cymbal noise whereas hitting a regular green pad will make the regular ...pad noise.
