Nintendo Announces Wii Voice Chat Solution

Nintendo today announced Wii Speak, a set-top microphone compatible with the Wii console, at their E3 2008 press conference today.

As briefly shown at the conference, the Wii Speak microphone sits atop a television, allowing for multiple users to use the device simultaneously.

The peripheral will make its debut alongside Animal Crossing City Folk, which will allow players to communicate with players while exploring a friend's town in the game. Nintendo also promises standard voice chat with friends via the Wii's Wi-Fi connection.

Wii Speak will debut alongside Animal Crossing City Folk near the end of 2008, sold separately at a $29.99 price point.

Putting the microphone on top of the TV is the 3rd worst possible spot to put the damn thing.

Wouldn't you not be able to pick up anything except the TV's speakers?

Also: $30? For a microphone!?? [ lol ]

that's kind of neat having multiple people use it...but honestly I don't see much use other than party games being played online...one of the reasons why I like my 360 headset is because I can turn it off and on at the flip of a switch so I can have music or another conversation in my room without disturbing anyone in the game

griefers dont exist on nintendo, you will have to add 30 buddy codes to use wii speak, and it will only be used on animal crossing. not impressed at all. new animal crossing = the ds version + 1 new area... woopty doo. so far nintendos just blowing their own horn.

This is really nice and all, and naturally I should be excited, but I'm just sick of stocking up on Wii crap. Hell, I'm sick of stocking up on a lot of crap for all these systems.

Heck, not sure if I want voice chat on the Wii...sounds more like a "Good in THEORY" kind of thing.
