First Prince of Persia In-game Trailer Released
by Steve Gibson, Jul 15, 2008 12:01am PDTThe first Prince of Persia in-game trailer was today released by publisher Ubisoft. The two minute video features a glimpse of the series' new illustrative art style and duel-focused combat system.
"We wanted [Prince of Persia] to feel like a playable illustration," said producer Ben Mattes in a recent Shacknews interview. "We want it to feel like the concept art has been directly brought to life in an interactive way in this game so you have that sensation almost as if you were playing an illustration."
Prince of Persia is in development at Ubisoft Montreal. The game is planned for a holiday release on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Great choice of music for the trailer. Everything fits in perfectly. This is a one of the better game trailer I have seen in ages. I was almost at loss for words. Beautiful stuff.

Anyway, a big, exotic-looking castle to jump/swing around in is just what I was hoping to see.
Looks great though and it's a nice trailer.

Now that is how you refresh a title.

And props to the guy who said he hated most everything about it. It takes effort.
Anyways, if they keep everything from this trailer, this game has potential beyond all previous PoP games.

... but I'm so sick of character's throwing each other around as if they're weightless. If you want your characters to be able to perform amazing feats, that's fine. But why not make it look like there's some effort involved in throwing a 110lb chick 20 feet in the air?
Reminds me of every bad cable-driven action movie (I'm looking at you 'Crouching Tiger').

Looks very fresh and exciting, my faith to this series might be returning after years of disappointment.
The art direction very beautiful.
Sands of TIme was the last good PoP game.

What I really, REALLY outright hated was the actual visible lines and curves following their movememnts and sword cuts and slashes a-la Ninja Gaiden and the like (sorry, don't know who did it first, but imho it can only appeal to 14-year-olds). Those are just incredibly childish and push me to dislike this new design. I say, lose those terrible effects and I'm in 100%.
Otherwise, I really loved the idea of paired combat, let's just hope it's fluent and well-executed. Don't really get why we need jump-pads like that, but I can weather that. All in all, I'm still unsure, this could go either way for me, gameplay-wise. Storytelling seems to be their rather strong-side, so at least I know we'll enjoy that.

Nice to see most of you appreciating this. Last time I checked people were giving it the usual "wah! too cartoony! moar brown!"
It'll also be interesting to see how combat works with 2 people. All that's left now is a great story!
This trailer sets the bar. Lets hope they can jump over it when its complete.
