EA DICE Talks Battlefield: Bad Company Updates; Conquest Mode Next, Possible Patch After

17
Following last month's release of Battlefield: Bad Company (PS3, 360), developer EA DICE has issued an update regarding its upcoming support for the game.

At present, the team is working on the much-requested addition of the franchises' traditional Conquest multiplayer mode. That pack is currently undergoing certification and testing, and will be added to the game as free downloadable content.

Once work on the Conquest Pack is concluded, the studio will devote more resources to the complaints with the game's online performance. While DICE doesn't know if it will be able to address the problems, it will be looking the following:

  • Clan support/private rooms/team chat
  • Auto balancing on servers
  • Continued support against stats exploits
  • VOIP issue on PS3 (working with Sony on this)
  • Squads might be split up when joining a server as a squad. This is due to team balancing in the games that are being joined, and usually resolves itself in round 2.

"We would like to let you know that we are reading and listening to all of your feedback," the studio wrote on the game's official site. "We are very aware of the different issues you have told us you find most important."

I'm very afraid this "conquest" mode is just going to turn into shitty campfests due to the absolute linearity of the maps in the game.

Not to mention the small amount of players, no way 12 people will be able to defend all the flags on some of the huge maps

      that wouldn't be bad actually

right now its very rush to the next base oriented and the gameplay is way too fast to accomidate some classes like snipers

Snipers are pretty good with their tracking device and that unlock to send a missle strike down but they rarely use them when its so fast paced with the gold rush mode

It plays pretty well actually. The flag setups were tailored to what played best and don't necessarily use the same areas goldrush does. I don't get your comment on the map's linearity, since that it's more of a function of the game mode.

I guess I'm assuming that because most maps are set up a->b->c with no way of getting from a to c without going through b first that it will be very different from the open feel of the past games. But if you guys are going to put the capture flags in different areas than the ones used for goldrush and try to open the maps up a bit then awesome! I eagerly await it now. =D

My understanding from the original announcement of the conquest mode was it would also ship with new maps, 4 as I recall. However, as is much with this game, I may have heard this from someone who didn't know what they are talking about or dreamed it up, lol!
