Guitar Hero 4 Includes Song Creation and Sharing, Multiple Instruments, Van Halen, Linkin Park
by Chris Faylor, May 12, 2008 4:09pm PDTNeversoft's Guitar Hero IV (PS3, PS2, X360, Wii) will feature custom song creation and multiple instruments when it arrives this fall, according to the June issue of Game Informer magazine.
As relayed by trustworthy NeoGAF user SolidSnakeX, the fourth Guitar Hero title will expand the series' offerings to include drum and vocal gameplay in addition to bass and guitar. It is not known if the controllers for Harmonix's multi-instrument music title Rock Band will be compatible.
The song creation functionality will somehow allow users to customize everything but vocals, though the specifics of this remain unclear. Users will apparently be able to upload and share songs on all platforms, and will even be able to create their own album art.
Four bands have been confirmed thus far for the game--Van Halen, The Eagles, Linkin Park and Sublime--with Neversoft noting that all songs within the game will be master tracks provided by record labels.
In addition to song creation, Guitar Hero IV is said to place a strong emphasis on player and instrument customization, in part due to the recent legal troubles with guitar maker Gibson.

Also, I saw the words "Van Halen" and "Guitar Hero" in the same sentence, and I shat bricks. It's true. They're right over there.

Putting notes to an MP3 you load onto the PS3/360
And probably will be something more like what Rock Band does on drums during big rock finishes. I.E. There will just be few generic notes mapped to buttons and then you make a song from that.
So don't look for anybody adding Zeppelin to GH any time soon. :(
HAHAHAHA
Who's gonna shell out $200 for a set of instruments that they already own?
Activision isn't gonna make the accessories compatible which is gonna create a bigger rift between GH users and Rock Band users, but more importantly it's going to give me a reason not to buy their game. I want to play GH damn it and I don't want to buy a new $60 controller that does the exact same thing as the one I already own.
Is it too much to ask a multi-billion dollar company to just make this work for the consumer?

I am bitter that I got slighted in all of this, but I hope this comes back and bites them in the butt.
Hopefully rockband will also be able to implement 'create your own song' as well.
That said, I'm already invested in RB stuff and am more interested in what they are bringing out next. GH seems too busy scrambling to figure out where they want to go from here, expanding into territory that deviates from the core concept of a "Guitar Hero". I liked GH3 for certain reasons, mainly because of it's additional features and difficulty over the RB guitar stuff. Now, they are trying focusing on bands and playing catchup with RB and I'm not sure people want to have at least 4 guitars, 2 drum sets, 2 mics, etc in their homes.

Also on the rockband note...the original song selection just hasn't been as good as Guitar Hero, which is surpirsing with MTV owning it. The DLC has offered some good tunes however...I know it's hard to please everyone.
I think the Band list so far is nice....as a bonus they should include all the songs from GH1,GH2, and 80's! Or at least offer them as downloadable paks.
Just take my wallet, please.
Also, no PC port heh? I guess GHIII PC didn't sell well?
