Gothic 4 Screenshots and Artwork Arrive

After hearing a lot about the series, I tried 3 back when it came out and I was pretty disappointed. Not expecting much from 4 either.

Gothic 3 failed me. I was all pumped about it and it didn't deliver. I hope Gothic 4 is alot better.

I bought the collection but for the life of me I can't get into Gothic. Reason being is the quest log and the controls. The quest log only records a basic quest title, and since I do not have the will to sit and play this game for hours straight.....this is not good for me. I'd have to take notes and thats too much like work than fun.

Then theres the atrocious controls. Fuck me. I tried to change them to be more logical, but ended up learning the buy/sell system only accepts the default controls and causes major bugs if you dare to touch change them. Christ.


Is Gothic 2 / 3 any better? Can I skip 1 for now? I'm sorry but a bad quest log is killer for me in this day and age when quests are timed or complex. "Find athar in sudafed and give him this gem, tell em zomar sent you". Ok so what if I never see this guy for 3 weeks in real time? I'll never remember this shit. :( I'm not cut out for this sort of thing these days, even baldur's gate 1 records your journal.

Whatever writing or effort went into Gothic 3 were lost by the five minute reloads on a decent computer of the time, multiplied to a power by dieing after three seconds of clumsy, clunky combat or maneuvering.

I'm looking forward to this but I don't have expectation because it isn't being made by the old devs. I don't have faith in Spellbound yet.

I think Morrowind was the last immersive RPG. It had just enough new ideas and interesting content to allow me to over-look the technical incompetence. I think no one has really added anything substantial to gameplay in the six years since then.

I give up on this series until they figure out how to properly implement combat. Hint: look at Mount & Blade.

Mmmm.. Gothic 3 was kickass, no matter what the fanboys say, I consider it one of the best compared to the shitty Oblivion hypefest. TBH, the first time I played this game I was just awestruck by high-res world (read = non blurry textures) first time in a PC game. Since it will come out for consoles I hope they optimize it enough for next.. next and next-gen PC instead of shitty console limitations.

Oh and the inventory better not be screwed up on PC just to make it easy for consoles.

I remember early screenshots of Gothic 3 were incredibly pretty. Did the final product look as good?

Awesome I loved 3, quite an over looked RPG that is very good. Lets 4 will be as good if not better.

On a side note there sure is a huge set of game announcements very cool times, not to mention AofC this weekend just crazy.

I don't know why, but something about these shots reminds me of the very first shots I saw of Ultima 9. Nothing bad, just eerily reminiscent.
