Rumors Persist of New X-COM from BioShock Folk

If they just ported the original game to 3D and just streamlined the interface, they would have a masterpiece on their hands. The original X-Com is far-and-away my favorite game of all-time, and I hope that if they are indeed working on a new one, they bring the series back to its roots. No first person. No real-time play. A deep tactical combat game bolstered by the same base building and alien ship hunting from the original is what the game needs to be.

I thought the Silent Storm gameplay was excellent (barring a few hiccups). They could easily repurpose something like that.

X-Com was the second game I bought in my life (after X-Wing). I still remember the wonderful feeling I got from playing it the first time. I fact, I remember it better than my sexual debut, which seems a bit strange now that I think about it.

Oh man. This could be aweome. Same ismoetric view, same art style but updated (obviously), same music type. Add in fully destructable environment (i used ot love how you could destory the entire ceiling and not have the house come crashing down on you haha).

BTW what is with the awful graphic for this story?

Man, I hope they're smart enough to release it for the DS... I want basically the same gameplay/atmosphere (base building/research, turn based combat, global map, etc) but with some improved graphics/sound... None of the clones have come close to the original. Honestly, I'd settle for a direct DS port, that'd be badass.

I think it's going to be very difficult to re-capture the essence of X-COM without those that made it in the first place, there have been certainly many clones which attempted to do so. I hope Levine has the sense to try and involve the Gollop brothers at some level.

Also what sort of "changes" would be made to appeal to today's generation of gamers if this is a big budget title, X-COM was fairly hardcore & unforgiving somehow I doubt it will be if there is a lot of money on the line. Hopefully that's not the case and this is a pet project of Levine's, I'd rather a low budget game that keeps the game play intact.

Playing through the original XCOM on super genius setting is one of my best gaming memories ever.

Loved that game. I wish it could be returned to its former glory.
