Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe Officially Announced
by Chris Faylor, Apr 18, 2008 4:00pm PDTPublisher Midway has announced that the eighth entry in its Mortal Kombat fighting series' will pit the franchises' characters against the legion of superheroes contained within the DC Comics universe.
Titled Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe and developed by Midway Amusement Games, the Unreal Engine 3-powered brawler is set to arrive on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this fall. Only four characters have been confirmed thus far: Superman and Batman, both of DC Comics fame, and Mortal Kombat veterans Scorpion and Sub-Zero.

Comments made by a Midway representative indicated that, due to the inclusion of DC Comic characters, the series' grisly and ultra-violent Fatalities will not be returning for this iteration. However, the game will apparently still include some type of finishing moves.
"Players will now be able to answer the question: what would happen if Batman fought Sub Zero?" stated creative director and series co-creator Ed Boon.
Other possible DC characters that could appear in the game include, but are not limited to, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, and The Flash.
With the storyline said to be a collaboration between the Mortal Kombat team and DC comic writers Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray, the game apparently picks up as "a cataclysmic force merges conquerors from two universes."

This is the dumbest quote I've read from a source in a really long time. No one has ever asked themselves (or anybody else for that matter) this question. Clearly, Boon and Midway are looking for a cheap way to revive a franchise that's been dead and buried for a really long time. I hope Midway loses so much on this "game" that they are forced to fold.
Also, before anyone tries to counter-argue citing MvC2 as an example, keep in mind that was developed by Capcom, who has more than proven themselves as THE fighting game developer for the better part of two decades.

How can Capcom be this bad at licensing? The Marvel vs Capcom series was phenomenal, yet there was never a true successor. Now Midway is trying to pick up the "fighting game versus comic universe" ball that Capcom so recklessly dropped.
For shame Capcom. This inevitable suck Midway is about to unleash on the gaming public could have been avoidable if you had only stuck with your immensely popular series' natural progression.

MK hasn't been fun to play since MK2 back in the day, and even then it was borderline compared to what Capcom was doing at the time. Plus, I've not seen evidence Midway's animators can animate for shit yet. They should go back to mo-capping actors, because their animations are about as stiff, stilted, and convincing as Keanu Reeves' acting.
In fact, here's a hint Boon: Bury the series or bring someone in that can reinvent the damn thing since it can't sell on shock value anymore (particularly with fatalities removed). This idea wreaks of the same smell every piece of shit game with a licensed name on it has.

Still..i wish some fatalities would be included..even if they are only stage related. Its hidden extra stuff like that which makes Mortal Kombat feel like MK.
On the other side, I might buy an X360 just to play the MK-series, SF4, Gears of War and Halo 3.
