Soul Calibur XBLA Based on Dreamcast Version
by Nick Breckon, Apr 17, 2008 10:26pm PDTWhen the original Soul Calibur was announced as an upcoming Xbox Live Arcade title yesterday, it was not immediately clear whether the project would be ported from the excellent Dreamcast edition or the less-than-perfect arcade rendition.
We checked with Namco on the matter, and can now happily confirm that it is the former case.
"The game is based on the Dreamcast version with no major additions or subtractions," said a Namco Bandai representative to Shacknews.
Look for the 'Cast-derived, high-def Soul Calibur to hit Xbox Live sometime this summer.

Sometime it's just walking around in wonderment and awe of such an amazingly designed game. I mean I came across those ruins and it's just stunning, sneaking around at night with the moon out and bow drawn.
I can only hope Fallout 3 is as deep an experience.

Anyway, I worked in a Babbage's in a mall when the Dreamcast launched. I had never heard of the game but I saw tons of it when the demo units came in, bought it and a Dreamcast, etc.
Then one day the dink-ass arcade we had in that mall got an arcade version. Man, I had always heard the Dreamcast version was better but I didn't know by how much until then. The Wikipedia article doesn't mention what exact hardware the arcade version ran on but I seem to recall hearing it was PlayStation 1 hardware essentially. It would make sense. If nothing else the resolution on it was pretty low.
