Super Smash Bros. Brawl Sells over 1.4M Copies, Becomes Fastest Selling Nintendo Title Ever
by Chris Faylor, Mar 17, 2008 9:24pm PDTNintendo's highly-anticipated mascot fighter Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii) has sold over 1.4 million copies in the week and the day since its North American on March 9, the company announced today.
According to Nintendo of America, the title has become the fastest-selling video game in the company's history, moving at a brisk 120 units per minute. Of the over 1.4 million figure units sold, more than 874,000 copies were sold on the first day of availability.
"Super Smash Bros. Brawl has made the leap from video game to cultural phenomenon," said sales and marketing vice president Cammie Dunaway.
The next big Wii title from Nintendo is Mario Kart Wii, which will be available at North American retailers on Sunday, April 27.
Despite inquiries from Shacknews, the company has yet to concretely address criticisms that Brawl's online component is suffering from congestion problems.
Many, including this reporter, have had mixed success using the "With Anyone" matchmaking option, with error messages becoming more frequent once the work day ends, and presumably, more players hop online.
However, those issues do not extend to the "With Friends" matchmaking component, which requires players to swap a 12-digit numerical code in order to add each other to their friends list.

I think they may be missing the point that most people who bought a Wii are disparate for games that are not Shovel ware.
