XBLA Hits Expand with Doom, Assault Heroes; Upcoming Xbox Live Arcade Titles Listed, Pictured

Microsoft has announced that the already-released downloadable Xbox 360 editions of Doom and Assault Heroes will join the Xbox Live Arcade Hits program this Wednesday. At that time, the price of both titles will be permanently reduced from 800 Microsoft Points ($10) to 400 Microsoft Points ($5).

The expansion of the Xbox Live Arcade Hits program, which highlights best-selling and fan favorite Xbox Live Arcade games, will occur in place of the usual Wednesday release of a new Xbox Live Arcade title. Microsoft has commented that it plans to update the Arcade Hits lineup on a quarterly basis.

The company also released a list and media of Xbox Live Arcade titles slated to arrive "in the near future." The list and screenshots follow:

You know it really bothers me that the id collection came with dosbox yet the 360 gets a specialized port with scaled graphics and muliplayer. Why didn't they update doom 95, throw in some large resolutions and server-based multiplayer?

I understand this has already been done by fans, but it would have been really nice to have a vanilla Doom update that could do MP and not require dosbox.

Duke3d might be coming to XBLA as well, and we don't even have a single proper method for playing online for the PC. Eduke/xduke/dukonnector - none of that shit works 100%. If the 360 gets a perfect port with multiplayer thats going to be very frustrating.

              Why?

They are going to charge money hats for the 360 version.
Unless they release a version of it through Steam and charge 5-10 bucks for it, there's no way it would otherwise show up for the PC.

IIRC, John Carmack mentioned in either a .finger or a blog post that they didn't know that happened to the source code for DOOM95.

              because they hate you.

More likely because the source code for the Windows 95 is different than the original source code for DOS, and there is significantly more money involved in porting it to the xbox, from the dos build, than just going through the motions and making it first work for a dead operating system and then moving it up to current OS standards from there. Why bother when in about 5 minutes you can download the complete doom PC set with fan mods, upgrades, etc through various "other" channels?

or you could download Skulltag or any of the numerous source ports that actually do support vanilla MP along with lots of other features.

Looks like it also has split-screen multiplayer, which is also not standard.
