Spore Arrives on PC, Nintendo DS September 7
by Chris Faylor, Feb 12, 2008 10:12am PSTEnding years of speculation, EA Maxis has announced that its long, long, long-awaited evolution simulator Spore will hit PC, Nintendo DS, and Mac on September 7, 2008. No mention was made of the upcoming Wii edition.
Lead designer Will Wright, the renowned visionary behind the long-running Sims franchise, had previously stated the game was on track for a spring 2008 release, though EA would only confirm that the game would hit "before holidays" in a recent conference call.
"The wait is almost over," said Wright. "We're in our final stages of testing and polish with Spore, and the team at Maxis can't wait to see the cosmos of content created by the community later this year."

I mean.. eyes on cells?? Big eyes at that. That was just uncalled for. :( The semi-realistic approch they had before was just so much more fitting..
I won't go as far as to say this has ruined the atmosphere of the game for me (especially considering I have yet to play the damn thing) but this has gone from a "OMG this is f00cking beautifull and immersive" to a "well this is kinda of nice but it would have been much better with that whole cartoonish-antropomorphism weak design left aside"
'Weak' as in "hell this game won't sell to children, let's add big cartoony eyes on the creatures to make them cute and more appealing to the 8-10 market". This is just dumbing-down the game. :(

It doesn't help that I have no idea what it's going to be about besides having a creature creator and eventually letting you fly a flying saucer.

I wonder if all the creatures will look that way, or if you can make them look a little less cartoony?

I just wish more developers/publishers would take on this example. Info filled videos like these is the way of the future imo!
