Rock Band Wireless Guitars Ship April 1, Standalone Drum Kits Hit Feb. 12

Harmonix and MTV Games announced today that individual instrument peripherals for Rock Band (PS2, PS3, X360) will start shipping to retail shelves on February 12.

The drum kit is the first instrument scheduled for release, available on February 12 for $79.99. The wireless Fender Stratocaster guitar controller, meanwhile, will arrive for all consoles on April 1 at $59.99. The wireless Fender marks the first official Rock Band wireless guitar for the Xbox 360.

Rock Band instruments were previously only available in a bundle--containing the drum kit, microphone, guitar controller, and the game itself--priced at $169.99 for PS3 and X360 and $159.99 for the PS2. Xbox 360 and PS2 players could use Guitar Hero-branded guitars with the game, though PS3 owners were not afforded the same luxury.

"The release of standalone instruments allows Rock Band musicians to enjoy the full Rock Band experience, including drum, microphone and guitar head-to-head modes, creating a whole new level of competitive fun," said Harmonix CEO and co-founder Alex Rigopulos.
