Romero On Daikatana
by Maarten Goldstein, Mar 07, 2000 2:34pm PSTThere's a post by John Romero on the Planet Daikatana forums answering about various aspects of Daikatana and it's development. Here are a couple of items:
3) The Q2 network code is the same except the amount of packets sent is a bit lower now since we've moved a lot of the special effects code over to the client. This results in lower packet traffic. Thanks Stomped.
6) We will be splitting the one team into two teams. The bigger team will be working on a Fifth Daikatana Episode, marketed as a mission pack. We will start working on our next big game after finishing the 5th episode.
8) There's a Fast Switch option in the multiplayer menus to switch weapons quickly and there's also a Footsteps option. Only allowing a certain amount of audio feedback definitely keeps the tension level up, ala DOOM. Too much information gives away everyone's position and removes much of the surprise.

Lemme break this down for ya.... \'splitting into 2 teams..\' Team #2 will be let go for creative
differences. Team #1 will work on the \'mission pack\'. In other words, Romero will \'reduce his
costs\' and prey that Edios just doent fire the lot of \'em.
anyone else betting on a Daikatana Tournament 8 months after release, hehe...
His release date claims were ridiculously optimistic (9 months for all that? I laughed at that, and for a reason. heh), but as game production schedules go Daikatana\'s seems to have scaled about right for how much content they\'ve apparently managed (or at least tried to manage).
When Q3 was on the HORIZON, it was like,
\"Geez, I just CAN\'T wait.\"
When Q3 was FINALLY released,
I HATE to say this, but I guess
I was a LITTLE disappointed -
I was EXPECTING too much.
With Daikatana, I\'m not expecting JACK.
If it sucks, it\'s because ROMERO is a
SHITTY manager. If it\'s good,
\"It should be, what with all the DAMN
TIME he\'s taken.\"
Either way -
ROMERO LOSES HIS REPUTATION IN THE INDUSTRY.
oh, wait, he already lost it.

Saeger *obviously* has too much time on his hands...
i hope the gameplay will be ok: fast movement, fast weapon switching, NO fucking footsteps... could be ok, from this POV (i don\'t care too much for its single player)
