New Sins of a Solar Empire Screens Released

Publisher Stardock Entertainment just sent over 15 new screenshots from Ironclad Games' upcoming 4x space strategy title Sins of a Solar Empire (PC).

According to its official site, the game will arrive in "just over two weeks," with retailer listings indicating a February 4 ship date. Once released, it will be available through both traditional retail outlets and digital distribution via Stardock's TotalGaming.net.

Stupid Question Alert! What does the 4x represent in real time strategies? Is it refer to dimensions x, y, z, and time? I thought this was similar to Homeworld, but the 4x makes it different I think. Anyone?

This game is pretty well put together and some of the maps are huge.

But it's still not enough to satisfy my hunger for a true Master of Orion II sequel.

I haven't seen any screenshots of the '4X' part of the game. These all seem like space RTS shots. (And I"m afraid they look jumbled...are they going to have the nice controls of Homeworld?)

There's one 'SupCom Strategic View' there, but what about 'Galaxy View' or 'Planet View'. Where's my research UI, or advisers screens?

Am I confused about what this game will be?

I thought it was GalCiv + Homeworld. These shots make it look like Supreme Commander in space.
