Burnout Paradise Demo Gaining 8 Person MP
by Chris Faylor, Jan 03, 2008 6:14pm PSTCriterion will tomorrow double the multiplayer capacity of the already-released Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 Burnout Paradise demos, the developer revealed on its official site.
Between January 4 and January 14, gamers will be able to engage in online matches with up to 8 players. The demo had previously been limited to 4 players, though the upcoming full version supports a total of 8 participants in an online match.
The company will also be unlocking 13 additional Freeburn challenges: 4 for an 8-player matches, and 3 for 5-, 6-, and 7-player bouts.
The latest in Criterion's racing-crashing series hits PS3 and Xbox 360 on January 22.

I've enjoyed all the previous burnouts, but I'll skip this one until they add:
1) Restart Race - A loading screen would be fine here.
2) Recommended path (fastest route without shortcuts)
3) Challenege menu: A list of all the intersections you haven't completed. Selecting one warps you there INSTANTLY AND NO I DON'T CARE IF I SEE A LOADING SCREEN. Driving there is about 10x more annoying than a loading screen could ever be. This feature must also be integrated into MP so you can have everyone who joins appear at the intersection for some pre-race smack talk.

'Open world' races might work for some games, but burnout really benefits from having linear tracks/courses that concentrate the race and therefore fighting into a nice long game.
Having your opponents all vanish at the second corner, simply because there is no single correct route, makes takedowns nearly impossible and the racing frustrating and boring.
No "restart race" sucks too. I'm sure the full version will have some really long races, and losing them will not be fun if you have to drive all the way accross the map to retry it.
And where has my road rage mode gone? Replaced with a tony hawk style "do 100 tricks in 2 minutes!" :/
