Far Cry 2 Announced for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360

Publisher Ubisoft has announced Far Cry 2 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Set in Africa, the exploration-heavy first person shooter is slated to arrive within the 2008-2009 fiscal year, which begins in April. A PC version of the game was first revealed last summer.

All editions of the game are being developed by Ubisoft Montreal, which previously handled the Xbox, Xbox 360, and Wii spin-offs of the first Far Cry (PC).

Original Far Cry creator and developer Crytek is not involved with the project, as Ubisoft acquired ownership of all things Far Cry in 2006. Published by Electronic Arts, Crytek's long-in-development spiritual sequel to Far Cry, Crysis, arrived on PC last fall to glowing reviews but a low retail sales debut.

Great. Now we can expect the "African Savannah" to be reduced to a sandy playground. Forget about all the advanced features they've been promising.

LOL, looks like they saw Crysis sales and did some quick calculations.

Unfortunately I beleive Crysis was one of the last truly multi-million dollar AAA games exclusive to the PC we'll see for a long, long time.

Great, now the game will be a watered down peice of crap with no DX10 that the spring graphics cards could have run pretty well. I see no reason to upgrade for anything this year since all the games will be done with the 360 in mind. Nothing new and exciting anymore for PC gaming since all we really get in 08 is console ports. I really, really may buy a 360 this year instead of spending 3 grand upgrading just to play console games on my PC. Sad but true.

"2008-2009 Fiscal Year" is just corporate bullshit-speak for 2009 right? The fiscal year starts in November I think... so that's just a way to make it sound like it might actually come out in 2008, when really it'll be a Christmas 2009 game.
