ShackCast 24: Duke Nukem Forever, C&C Tiberium
by Chris Remo, Dec 21, 2007 1:23pm PSTDuke Nukem Forever and its teaser dominated the news this week, and so it kicked off ShackCast 24, but there were plenty of other topics for Chris Remo, Steve Gibson, Chris Faylor and Nick Breckon--the announcement of Command and Conquer Tiberium (PC, PS3, Xbox 360), low sales of Unreal Tournament 3 and Crysis, Jerry Bruckheimer and his MTV-funded game studio, the possibility of a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. MMO, and more.
As usual, this is all capped off with reader mail. Don't forget to send in your questions and comments about video games, the Shack, or the ShackCast to shackcast@shacknews.com! Even if your name isn't Pendergrass!

When I listen to the podcast I feel like Remo is trying very hard to run the podcast, to a point where he doesn't sometimes comes off as a jerk. When (i forgot who) was talking about his first memory and Remo responds with "What the hell does that have to do with gaming?" He really should had listened to what the topic was and then he wouldn't had asked, but then coming in like that just sounded like a ass.
Remo used to say "moving on" way to much, the pacing of topics has become more organic. That being said the rest of the crew seems pretty aloof at times, like they got dragged into a monday morning status meeting.
It sounds bad, i really do like the podcast. I hope this criticism doesn't discourage you but helps improve the show.
Yippee kye ayy
For me: Rainbow six 3:Raven Shield.

Not to mention, this is still the #2 selling game on the PC. One area where the PC benefits a lot I believe is that publishers don't have to pay a certain amount to publish the game, right? Unlike the 360 or other normal consoles where Nintendo or Microsoft or whoever gets $10-15 per game sold?
Here are the top 20 selling games for those interested.
1. Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Activision - $49
2. Crysis - Electronic Arts - $47
3. The Orange Box - Electronic Arts - $37
4. The Sims 2 Teen Style Stuff Expansion Pack - Electronic Arts - $18
5. World Of Warcraft - Vivendi - $18
6. Hellgate: London - Electronic Arts - $49
7. The Sims 2 Bon Voyage Expansion Pack - Electronic Arts - $30
8. Final Fantasy XI: Wings Of The Goddess Expansion Pack - Square Enix, Inc. - $30
9. World Of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Expansion Pack - Vivendi - $32
10. Sim City 4 Deluxe - Electronic Arts - $19
11. Sim City 5: Societies - Electronic Arts - $49
12. World Of Warcraft: Battle Chest - Vivendi - $38
13. Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Collectors Ed - Activision - $60
14. The Sims 2 Deluxe - Electronic Arts - $33
15. Nancy Drew: Legend Of The Crystal Skull - Her Interactive - $20

2. I agree that Crysis has a better potential for long-term sales; eventually the gamers who are holding out due to system specs will just go buy it and turn down the settings until the next hardware refresh. It makes me think, though: how were the sales of FarCry running from its release through summer 2004 and fall 2004? That's probably an indicator of how Crysis might do in sales. UT3, on the other hand, is doomed; poisoned from the lackluster demo, the GameSpy lock-in, and the impression that the game was developed for PS3, then ported to PC (or, if not the entire game, at least the UI).

In all seriousness the last few podcasts have been great and I'm making time to listen to the shackcast when I can't find time to listening to any podcasts lately.

Such a great game. I still think that it would sell much better if it was on Steam, ala Call of Duty 4.
