Blizzard Confirms 'Unannounced MMO' in Works
by Carlos Bergfeld, Dec 12, 2007 11:22am PSTOnce again, job listings looking for artists to work on a "Next-Gen MMO" at Blizzard caused speculation in the community forums to run rampant. But this time, a Blizzard staffer responded to the flurry of hypotheses from forum posters, confirming that the game is not a World of Warcraft expansion.
"No, it is an unannounced Next-Gen MMO," the Blizzard rep said in response to a post stating the additional employees could be used for the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. "And that doesn't mean an expansion for World of Warcraft either."
The posts began after additional "Top Secret" job listings were posted on Blizzard's official job site, requesting a lead 3D character artist and lead 3D environment artist.

"Diablo 3 takes place in heaven. Hell is trying to take it over and it is AWESOME looking … Imagine the brightness of heaven being taken over by the darkness of hell … Imagine WoW but in a Diablo world in amount of size and playability … Also, guild housing is available in this game for those of you who know about it."
And if you absolutely have to make one, pickup the GW model instead of monthly subscriptions.
It's not like maintaining game servers and hardware is expensive nowadays.

I love their work, but hearing an announcement from them fills me with indifference since it will likely be many MANY years until it ever comes out.
Even when they start showing screenshots, the game is at least a year away.

Terrans are easy - skill points get you the ability to drive vehicles, transport people, sabotage and control facilities, set up temporary facilities, give others around you more survivability (command aura stuff).
Zerg would be tougher, but could be handled a bit like Savage did it. You spawn as a grunt zergling, but the more you play and the more kills / captures you rack up, the more access you get to more powerful units (up to a maximum of X spawns, say). When you get killed enough times in the more powerful form you have to earn more spawn points as a zergling. Some peripheral skills could be thrown in there, but most should be reserved for the non-basic forms.
Protoss, hmm, I guess vaguely similar to Humans. I haven't played SC in ages.
Anyway, make this, give it the Blizz coat of polish, the sky's the limit :D
Or does Blizzard take everything they've learned and create a new IP and use it to breathe life into a brand new MMO. I love wondering about this stuff. Does it come from one higher up at Blizzard saying " we are going to make this game" or is it a collaborative process where all of Blizzard kind of says "we want to make this game" and then they make it.

You just run around the world looking for mats to craft hats with, then you mail them to Blizzard through the in-game postal system. The Top 10 Moneyhat makers each week get an epic!
