Gears of War PC Patched
A patch for Gears of War for Windows is now available from FileShack, taking care of some performance issues while also fixing a Games for Windows - LIVE update bug.

Well, it automatically launched the game after patching, and since I was busy with something else I tried to quit the game as soon as I could. So I clicked on Quit and the game stopped responding. I could see my cursor moving around, but I couldn't do anything. I had to hit the reset button since none of the magic "shut this motherfucker down" key combinations were working.
It was nice of them to patch it before the weekend though.-
Oh, it's a fun game though. I can play it perfectly when I yank my ethernet cable. Games for Windows Live.
Imagine the ability to play online with your friends, even cross-platform between your Windows based PC and Xbox 360 in supported games, without the need to configure anything. Sounds too good to be true? It’s real and it’s here!-

the problem is this isn't really documented or brought up anywhere, from what I've seen anyway. it would be really nice if the UI gave you the option of creating a local profile when appropriate. the whole games for live windows thing is a mess, imo. it needs a lot of work, mostly a better UI, i.e. one that's not designed for a console.

Everyone says this but it doesn't work. For me I had to wait 5 hours for Live to come back up before I could create an account and thus even start a save game. If I dared to attempt to create one it would get only so far and alt-tab out of itself to a database error. If i ignored it then the game would just ask me for a username and password, of which I didn't even have.
If theres a local feature I'd like to see it. I'd play with my now created account (since it still seems to function even offline....albeit with gigantic "PLEASE LOGIN TO SAVE ACHIEVEMENT" prompts every step of the way) however I've heard constant complaints about losing one's saves once Live comes back and "syncs" with your offline data.
Live for PC is broken. Thats just how it is. -
