LucasArts And BioWare Enter Into Game Development Agreement; Rumored Star Wars MMO Likely
by Maarten Goldstein, Oct 30, 2007 6:20am PDTLucasArts and BioWare today announced that they have signed an agreement to develop an "interactive entertainment product". Literally nothing else of note is mentioned in the press release, except that specifics will be unveiled at a later date and a website can be found at LucasArtsBioWare.com. However, this announcement comes a week after reports hit the internet that claimed BioWare Austin is working on an MMO set in the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic universe. At the time, a LucasArts representative would neither confirm or deny the existence of such a project. "BioWare's mission is to deliver the best story and character-driven games in the world, delivering powerful emotional experiences to our fans," said BioWare CEO Ray Muzyka. Added president Greg Zeschuk, "The collaboration with LucasArts allows us to combine our passion for creating high quality and innovative experiences with those of a company dedicated to bringing only the finest games to market."

i think they should stick with what works...RPGs KOTOR has been great in RPGs and like master yoda once said "if it aint broke dont fix it!!!" lol
If Bioware and Lucas Arts do this right, this could very well be one of the biggest games to hit the market. I hope that it focuses on PvP and economy and doesn't knock off the WoW experience. Even if this caters to a specific audience or genre of players, it should be a smash hit. From my experience, those people that are hardcore in to PvP and economy tend to stay long-time subscribers when compared to the others. Not to mention they are usually more loyal.

On a side note, I'll be damned if the Star Wars universe isn't the most technologically stagnant sci-fi universe ever. 4000 years back and they not only are still in space but on similarly designed ships?

Just because subway makes a hell of a sandwich, doesn't mean you can count on them to make you a top-notch soufflé.
I, for one, would prefer KOTOR 3.

Oh come on, it's LucasArts. I know this is typical PR speech, but there's tons of good things they could have said of the company while avoiding "let us use the StarWars license" without flat out lying.
Also I share nomaad's concern that we are all about to receive a game from Bioware via EA. Skeptical!
Hell I'm even skeptical for Mythic via EA on Warhammer Online.

Has that happened before?

That being said the design leadership is different, so i am personally optimistic. But beyond that screw the mmo market in general, I need an engineer to build me a damn dispenser.
i can't wait :D
