Wii Will Have 140 Games by Year's End
by Carlos Bergfeld, Oct 11, 2007 12:50pm PDTBy the end of 2007, Nintendo expects 140 games to be available for the Wii, and 450 games available for the DS, the company announced today. Nintendo coupled the announcement with a gigantic release list for both the Wii and DS detailing the rest of the year's retail schedule, as well as releases into early 2008. The recently delayed Smash Bros. Brawl will not be among the 140 total Wii titles seen before the year's end, and its new February 10 retail date appears in the list. It's like I wanted to like consoles but they never managed to satisfy. Racing games and fighting games were the two genres they did better than PC games, but then I got the XBox 360 controller for my PC so I could enjoy NeedForSpeed:MostWanted without buying another console; I've not looked back since.
Of course XBLive being a pay-to-play service wasn't exactly attractive either. Everyone wants a monthly fee from you (c.f. MMORPGs, XBLive, etc). I don't buy into that pricing model. So again consoles didn't quite do it for me since I enjoyed multiplayer FPS games most. Then throw in FPS games being much more enjoyable with a mouse/trackball and keyboard and the generally much more modable / editable games on the PC. PC gaming always brought me back.
Then I stopped playing games a few months back. Aside from the occasional Flash game at work ... =)
