Crossfire Begets Conflict: Denied Ops

Developer Pivotal Games and publisher Eidos Interactive today announced that the game formerly known as Crossfire is now part of the Conflict franchise. Renamed Conflict: Denied Ops, it is expected to release on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2008.

First announced back in September of 2006, the co-op-oriented first person shooter tells the tale of two National Clandestine Service agents--CIA operatives that operate sans anything that would link them back to the United States government. Players switch between the two characters at will, with the AI assuming control of the other. The game also utilizes Pivotal's new Puncture Technology for environmental destruction, allowing for such possibilities as poking a hole in a wall for sniping.

"This is our first chance to develop a Conflict game for next-gen platforms," explained Pivotal technical director Alex McLean. "Working on the 360 and PS3 weÂ’ve been able to take the series to new heights, with true next-gen lighting, advanced enemy AI, an explosive environment and unique tactical co-op gameplay. Conflict: Denied Ops marks a new era for the Conflict series."

Previous entires in the Pivotal-developed series, which has spanned PC, PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube, include Conflict: Desert Storm and Conflict: Desert Storm II - Back to Baghdad.
