RedOctane Confirms Guitar Hero DS

by Nick Breckon, Aug 15, 2007 8:51am PDT

In an interview with CNET, RedOctane CEO Charles Huang gave truth to the rumor that a Nintendo DS version of Guitar Hero is in the works. "We are working on that," Huang affirmed. "While the technical path hasn't been set yet, we intend for this to be a very unique experience just like Guitar Hero was on consoles. This will play probably unlike any other DS game that has come out, and at this stage, that's all I'm afraid we can talk about until we have the engineering paths laid out with Nintendo." When asked whether the game would feature a custom peripheral, Huang replied: "That is definitely one of the options we're exploring. The DS peripheral is very intriguing to us. It's an integral part of the Guitar Hero experience, so as much as possible, we would like to keep it within the experience as long as it makes sense and it plays well... It needs to be affordable and it needs to fit within the environment that people normally play DS games in."

  • This would be cool if the peripherals linked to the DS through Wifi. You could have the wireless fretboard strapped to your left palm, and some sort of guitar pick accelerometer thingy (like a wiimote type of thing, but really small) for your right hand. Not sure how you'd work the whammy bar in there, but if you could rock out air guitar style that would be pretty god damn cool.

I can't see myself playing a little tiny guitar, it's bad enough having to yell at your fucking Nintendog in public let alone trying to rock out with some midget banjo contraption.
