EA Announces Command & Conquer 3 Expansion: Kane's Wrath
by Nick Breckon, Aug 14, 2007 9:09am PDTLast night on the first Command & Conquer BattleCast, Electronic Arts announced the first expansion pack for Command & Conquer 3, subtitled Kane's Wrath. The core addition to the game comes in the form of a new "global domination meta-game," described as "Risk on steroids" by producer Jim Vassella. The player will move their armies around a global map, and upon collision with the enemy, the game will shift to a standard C&C match. Upon exiting the match, the remnants of your army will persist in the game world, as in a game like Creative Assembly's Rome: Total War. In addition to the campaign map, a new radial interface will be brought over to both the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game. The interface allows the player to manage a base from any point on the map, assigning queues on the fly. As far as standard additions go, each faction will now feature two sub-factions, which come with new units, upgrades, powers, and structures. Online play will also be bolstered with over two dozen maps. "As the title suggests, Kane's Wrath is all about Kane, and the rise of NOD following the second Tiberium War, taking the player through the third Tiberium War and beyond," said producer Jim Vassella. The campaign will feature live-action cinematics as before, with Joseph Kucan reprising his role as Kane. "We've been really listening to the fans. We've been looking at the forums. We want to implement as much of your ideas as possible. We've been doing it all throughout development on this," added Vassella. The Xbox 360 version will be launching simultaneously with the PC version, although no time-frame was given. For a closer look, check out the video.

As for "Risk on steroids", I have seen it already in numerous games, and it is far from an original concept. Red Alert(original) had a risk-like style, as did Red alert 2, although not full scale. Emperor: Battle for Dune, Battle for middle earth(worst purchase decision I've ever made, and last EA developed/influenced game I ever bought...so horribly balanced and supported, including false/misleading advertising of game features), Empire Earth 2 I think had it, the Total War games have it, though over a smaller region, not the world, but hey...one or two thousand years ago, that was the world(to them). I know I'm missing a few games, one of them being widely popular, though its name escapes me...you could set up trade routes for more money, advance through the ages, end up with nukes, and no, I'm not talking about the Empire Earth series...it's different. Someone able to figure this one out?
