Ubisoft's FarCry Sequel Confirmed
by Nick Breckon, Jul 19, 2007 10:19am PDTCorroborating earlier rumors based on leaked information, Ubisoft today launched the official site for the sequel to the open-world PC shooter FarCry. The website briefly displays what appears to be an African landscape, before smashing to a large FarCry 2 logo. Following FarCry developer Crytek's 2004 deal with publisher EA to create a new game--which eventually would become the much-anticipated shooter Crysis--Ubisoft was left alone with the rights to the FarCry franchise. News of the company's planned sequel broke after images were accidentally included in an Ubisoft press kit. "Far Cry marked the beginning of a new era for shooters. An era of gorgeous graphics and of advanced artificial intelligence," said Ubisoft's Tony Key. "We are confident that Far Cry 2 will have the same impact again on the FPS genre landscape." FarCry 2 is under development by Ubisoft Montreal. No further details were released at this time.
