THQ Steams it Up

by Chris Remo, Jul 17, 2007 2:38pm PDT

As the latest in a long list of publishers joining up with Steam, THQ has announced that it too plans to add its titles to Valve's popular PC game download service. Available today are Relic Entertainment's Company of Heroes, Iron Lore's Titan Quest and Titan Quest: Immortal Throne, and Pandemic Studios' Full Spectrum Warrior and Full Spectrum Warrior: Ten Hammers. Each has a 10% discount from its standard price until July 24. THQ plans to make available several additional games in the near future. On the way are GSC Game World's S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, Relic Entertainment's Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War Gold Edition, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War Platinum Edition, and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Dark Crusade. "In the past couple years, THQ has established itself as one of today's premier PC publishers," said Valve co-founder Gabe Newell. "It's great to finally be working together with THQ and its studio system and offer this award-winning line up to Steam's growing audience, which represents over 13 millions accounts."

  • The feature I love most about Steam is not having to worry about losing or ruining the CD / DVDs of my purchased media. It's nice to have all the games available for installation / reinstallation whenever I need. After my last PC died, I easily reinstalled all my Steam games on my new PC overnight, without having to search for discs or attend to installation prompts. I'm glad more publishers / developers are releasing their games for purchase on Steam because I doubt I'll ever buy a boxed PC game again. For me, the convenience of Steam outweighs any savings I may find by buying a boxed PC game.
