Lord of the Rings Online Update Plans

The official Lord of the Rings Online website has been updated, noting that June will see the release of Shores of Evendim, the first of "many free updates" for the game. Shores will include new land, over sixty new quests, nine new monsters, and an upgraded music system.

  • I think they did a good job making the world a bigger part of the game. The deeds, titles, and traits offer up a different style of play than the typical loot-based mmo. I'm not sure if this game has what it takes to pull in those power gamers, but in a way I'm actually hoping it doesn't. Those are typically the type of gamers that ruin games by breaking it down to min-maxing and loot whoring. Or at least they do for me.

    I think an item is much cool if it has history behind it, I did some interesting questing behind it, and it fits into the world. That, to me, is much more important than stats (although it should have good stats, too).

    I preordered this game, which is unusual for me; I usually end up disliking games I beta test (which is why I rarely beta test anymore). LOTRO was unexpected, however. Using the combat skills of the hunter and running around middle earth collecting traits and exploring has been really, really compelling to me.
