by Maarten Goldstein, Feb 12, 2007 6:48am PSTCompanies are rolling out the third GeForce 8 GPU based product today, the GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB. Similar to the previous 8800 GTS, memory has been halved resulting in a lower price point. The new card(s) have been tested at HardOCP, AnandTech, PC Perspective, I4U, MadShrimps, Bjorn3D and Guru3D.

A 7900GS should do me just fine for a while. I don't intend on upgrading to Vista any time soon. But, that upgrade will be more of a pain if I have to upgrade my card as well. Honestly, I'm sick of upgrading all the time. It's very tempting to just get a 8800GTS (640MB) and be done with it. It's also much more expensive.
The more I think about it, scratch it. I'll just get a nice 7900GS and be done with it for a while. Better cards always come out later anyway.

This looks like the card to get. By the time there are games demanding enough that you'll need it and/or Vista/DX10 are worth using, the price ought to be real nice.
Although who knows, maybe the 640mb version will be cheapies by then too.

So why even bother with selling a 8800gts with 320mb memory when you have more than a year old 6800gs having 512 mb?

With 640MB cards going at $350 after rebate, who the heck wants one of these?
