EA and Valve Unveil The Black Box and The Orange Box is the press release officially announcing the two Half-Life 2: Episode Two releases we mentioned a few weeks ago. According to the announcement, Episode 2 has been delayed again, as a Fall 2007 date is mentioned. It was previously due out this summer, which already represented a delay.

  • I don't mind them being overly ambitious with their project, I suspect they're simply trying to do too much at one time and still maintain the quality they've built their company around. Episode 2 will contain Portal and TF2 as well, and TF2 has been a no show for 5 years already. Just because it's reemerged doesn't mean it's done. Plus they're continually developing STEAM, working with external teams like the Left 4 Dead guys.

No one's going to be able to say that they're not getting their money's worth whether they get Black for the PC or Orange for the 360, and no one is going to cry about the quality of what we get when it does hit.

I do think that sticking with the 'Episodic Content' moniker at this point is a little ridiculous though. At least, episodic content as it was originally pitched..

My biggest concert with these delays is that when they finally get around to their next full fledged project, be it HL3 or something else, that all this time spent working on extending the HL2 story and improving the source engine will put them behind the curve... unless they already have yet another team working on Source's successor.
