The Crossing Q&A

10

Over at 1UP you can find a Q&A on The Crossing, the single/multiplayer FPS from Dark Messiah of Might & Magic developer Arkane Studios. Producer Raphael Colantonio and art director Viktor Antonov talk about what we can expect from the game. Media is included.

I had to read the Q&A twice to fully understand what they are going to do. Its quiet fascinating if they can pull it off.

Yeah, I read an article and I'm not entirely sure what the hell they are talking about.

It's interesting they are going for it, but I"m a bit skeptical.

sounds like a glorifed version of rabbit aka shmear the guy on a quest...

they still don't explain how it works. Does the person playing single player host a server that other queue into? Or rather do you connect to a zone ala an MMO?

They are really limiting the technical info on this, BOOO!

if it's on steam, players will probably dedicate servers for the community of players, right ?
unless the people playing the stories open listen servers and the people playing the enemies join that server, but then, I'm not sure about bandwidth. How many players can you host on a listen server without it being too laggy ? anyone ?

Take a look at the latest episode of 1up. They do a fantastic job of explaining what exactly Crossplay is going to entail.

If you were reading the Q&A or preview article in GFW the reason you had to read it twice is because Sean Elliot wrote it and he has a very unique (some would say confusing) writing style. Don't get me wrong, he's a very good writer but I find his writing style to have a backwards feel to it.

Also, about this game, I have a ton of skepticism that it will be any good at all in light of the buggy mess that Dark Messiah was. I have read the previews for The Crossing and it just didn't sound that great to me and if I read a preview and can't really 'get' what they're trying to do then odds are that they're trying to either do TOO much or their ideas are too complicated and probably won't work anyway. Not interested in it at all. Too many other great games coming out this year anyway.
