Soldner 2 Announced
I'm not sure who is clamoring for a sequel to Soldner: Secret Wars, but this press release announcing that they are indeed making a part two. Development of the multiplayer shooter sequel will be handled by gEasy Development Team, and the game is scheduled for a late 2007 release. Thanks Blues News.

did the original game ever work? I thought the idea was really cool (you could blow up anything you see) but that it seemed totally unplayable.

The original game worked only after several patches. It gradually got better until they released the free Marine expansion pack. After that they disbanded the developer and a group of modders took over the support. I beleive they are the ones who will be doing the new version. At this point the original game is playable but still suffers a lot of performance issues. Most of the servers are in Europe where the game was a tad more popular (particularly Germany). At most you'll find a couple of hundred people playing at peak hours.
despite the horrific technical issues, underneath was a brilliant and sophisticated game. It was actually a bit too ambitious for the original devs to take on. If they can release a reliable online client and engine using the same type of game assets it could far surpass games like Battlefield and Op Flash.-
I agree. I was one of the few who actually bought the game. I had high hopes for it but it ended up being a letdown. It had so many great ideas and the variety of gear was just great. I talked to one of the devs at E3 2004 and he was really enthusiasting about it too. Too bad that the final product was not what they had envisioned for it.
